How to Care for Wool and Cashmere|Washing & Storage Guide

Wool and cashmere are highly valued natural fibers known for their softness and excellent insulation. However, they are delicate materials that can shrink or lose their shape if not properly washed and stored. To maintain their luxurious texture and longevity, follow these care guidelines.

1. Proper Washing Methods for Wool & Cashmere

(1) Hand Washing vs. Machine Washing
• Hand Washing (Recommended): Dissolve a wool-specific detergent in cold water (below 30°C) and gently press the garment in the water. Avoid using regular detergent or bleach, as they can damage the fibers.
• Machine Washing (Use Caution): If using a washing machine, select the “Wool” or “Delicate” cycle, keep the water temperature below 30°C, and place the item in a mesh laundry bag to minimize friction.

(2) Washing Steps
1. Soaking: Fill a basin with cold water and a wool detergent, gently stir, and soak the garment for 5–10 minutes. Avoid prolonged soaking.
2. Gentle Washing: Do not rub or twist the fabric. Instead, gently press and swirl it in the water.
3. Rinsing: Rinse thoroughly 2–3 times with clean water. During the final rinse, add a small amount of fabric softener to maintain softness.

(3) Drying Process
• Do Not Wring Out: Lay the garment flat on a clean towel and gently press to absorb excess water.
• Flat Drying is Essential: Avoid hanging to prevent stretching. Shape the garment and dry it flat in a well-ventilated, shaded area. Direct sunlight can cause fading and stiffening.

2. Proper Storage for Wool & Cashmere
• Store in a Well-Ventilated Area: Avoid humid environments to prevent mold and odors.
• Use Moth Protection: Wool and cashmere are prone to insect damage, so use moth repellents, but ensure they do not directly touch the fabric.
• Fold for Long-Term Storage: Hanging can cause stretching, so it is best to fold and store the item properly.

By following these washing and storage techniques, you can keep your wool and cashmere items in perfect condition for years to come.
